Recombinant Silk as Ingenious Biomaterials for Biomedical Industries

Natural silk plays a significant role in the economy of the textile industries in several countries. Silk produced by the various type of silkworms and spiders are one remarkable natural materials applied in the several biomedical desires. After innovation of recombinant technology, it is appeared as robust and polyvalent platform for the production of recombinant and smart novel biomaterials. By using transgenic and recombinant technology silk based biomaterials used in suture, wound dressings, scaffold, fiber-hydrogel composite drug delivery, knitted hernia mesh, organ development, silk-based anti-aging materials, self-assembled nanoparticles, reinforced biomaterials etc. By utilizing silk proteins various organs such as silk cornea, silk-based eardrum, silk hydrogel, cardiac tissue development, cartilage and bone tissues engineering along with anti-cancer therapeutics have been already developed. Recently, through silk proteins, silk gelatin bio-ink, 3d bio-printing, 2d, and 3d composite have been also discovered, therefore, we are considering and implementing silk as ingenious biomaterials for biomedical and biotechnology industries.
